Zeroes to Heroes
What is this? An England football team playing with gusto and guile? Every player expressing themselves and playing to win. A game of pace and passion. The McClaren era started like a dream with the new, and much deserved, captain scoring first and racing off in celebration with clenched fist, a look of the utmost pride and schoolboy joy on his face. How different the team looked without the lacklustre Beckham leading (?). The midfield was transformed as Lampard's scoring boot began to sing again and Gerrard roamed freely. Little Owen ran himself into the ground again (one of the few players who actually looked like he cared how England played back in the World Cup).
I know, I know, I must rein myself in, as the BBC pundits point out. The oppostion were far from Greek God-like. In fact they were a shambles! But it's hard not to get a little excited after the misery of the W Cup when our high hopes (perhaps unrealistically so) were dashed in such a fashion. The true test will come with the qualifiers in September. I remain upbeat.
And to top all that Andy Murray has gone and beaten Federer!! Not Roddick, who is easily beatable, but world number one, Mr Invincible, best player EVER Roger Federer! Murray may look like an angry long-eared owl and listen to rap but he plays a great game of tennis.
